It's become quite popular recently, especially among political conservatives and others who oppose President Biden, to use the shrouded insult, “Let’s go Brandon.”
Perhaps you’ve heard the saying, “Let’s go Brandon” and wondered what it means. Maybe you already know what it means.
It’s a veiled way for people to degrade sitting President Joe Biden.
It comes from a video clip in which a Nascar Driver, Brandon Brown—who has just won a race— is being interviewed while the crowd behind him chants a derogatory statement against the President. When asked what the crowd is chanting, the reporter states, “Let’s go Brandon.”
As ABC4 reports, In short, “Let’s Go Brandon” is a way of saying “F*** Joe Biden.”
-What does the Bible say About this?
“Be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.”
When Peter wrote this letter, he was addressing Christians who lived under oppressive governments...governments who not did not recognize Christ as King, and governments who actively persecuted Christians. And what was Peter’s guidance? “Fear God. Honor the Emperor.”
There was no room for disrespecting the government or its leaders. Peter knew that God installs and removes governors and kings as He wills (Rom. 13:2). And Peter says that Christians, even those living under oppressive governments, as much as they are able, are to, “do good and put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.”
Chanting, “Let’s go Brandon” is an act of pure disrespect and national insubordination. Not only is it disrespectful to our President and his office, it is disrespectful to our President as a human being. It is a rejection of God’s man for the job. It is an act of Biblical foolishness.
Christians cannot say, “Let’s go Brandon.” Instead, let’s put to silence the foolishness of the world by holding forth the righteousness of Jesus Christ. We may not like him. We may not support his policies or governing style. But Christian, God has put him there for this time, and God will glorify Himself in it.
Conclusion
We must fear God, and we must honor the emperor.
